Tiden är inne att avgå som VD på Candy People AB

Det här blir mitt, Jacob Youssefs, sista pressmeddelande som VD på Candy People AB.

Jag började i konfektyrbranschen som 15-åring och har vuxit upp och skolats in i en fantastisk bransch som jag håller varmt om hjärtat. Mitt sinne för affärer fanns där tidigt då en av mina allra första leksaker var en kassaapparat. Allt detta utvecklade sig senare till min egen business där jag konkurrerade ut skolans kafeteria genom att sälja godis från mitt skåp. Min pappa började i godisbranschen 1982 och jag har tillbringat stora delar av min uppväxt vid hans sida. Därför föll det sig väldigt naturligt att jag under gymnasietiden började spendera både kvällar och helger på Candy People för att förstå hur allt fungerade, innan jag tog på mig rollen som vice VD vid 20-årsåldern.

När jag fyllt 25 år var jag VD men hade ingen aning om vad jag gett mig in på. Nu i efterhand tänker jag att det nog varit min styrka, att jag inte visste vad som väntade eller förväntades av mig. De första sju åren var inte lätta eller vackra, jag, nära vänner och min familj slet verkligen. Från att ha gått från en omsättning på cirka 7 miljoner växte företaget något enormt. Genom att vara både naiv och orädd inför såväl bransch som framtid gjorde Candy People och jag en fantastisk resa. Under mina år som VD ökade omsättningen till över 300 miljoner, vi expanderade till flera kontinenter, erhöll priser som Exportgasellen och Årets företagare och fick fantastiska samarbetspartners som IKEA och ICA. Detta är några av de framgångar som gör mig yr bara jag tänker på det. Vilken otrolig resa! Ett litet företag från det då ruffigaste området i Malmö blev till kontor på flertalet kontinenter – men vi förblev ändå ett intimt familjeföretag.

Efter många års ledande av Candy People börjar jag nu känna att jag gjort mitt. Jag har uppfyllt alla de drömmar jag hade för företaget och börjar nu med otrolig stolthet känna mig, klar? Det börjar bli dags för mig att göra något annat, att testa mina vingar på annat håll. Mitt tankesätt, driv och mina visioner har utvecklat företaget i över 20 år och därför känner jag, nu mer än någonsin, att det är dags att lämna över VD-posten till nästa person i familjen – min syster Anna Bebinno Youssef.

Anna är inte bara min syster, hon är också en otroligt driven och hårt arbetande kvinna. Hon besitter den glöd och viljan att driva Candy People framåt som jag en gång hade när jag började i branschen. Jag tycker dessutom att det verkligen är på tiden att vi släpper fram en kvinna som VD för Candy People och det ska bli kul att följa hennes visioner för företagets väg framåt. Anna har sedan flera år tillbaka drivit bolag i egen regi och jag känner fullt förtroende för att nu även lägga detta i hennes händer. Hon är definitivt mer strukturerad än vad jag är, och mitt galna wild and crazy beteende kommer tonas ner lite för att ge mer plats åt eftertanke och lugn.

Både jag och min pappa Joanis Youssef, kommer finnas kvar som rådgivare i bolaget åt min syster. Jag sitter även kvar i styrelsen och kommer säkert synas till och från på huvudkontoret i Malmö, men inte i någon framträdande roll. Så, med varm hand låter jag Anna driva Candy People vidare till den framtidssaga jag vet att det blir.

Vad ska jag göra nu då?
Det lämnar jag osagt än så länge.
När tiden är inne kommer jag berätta för er.

Till sist vill jag tacka alla som stöttat mig genom åren. Tack till er som trott på företaget och gett oss en chans. Tack för alla fina relationer och kontakter som vi byggt och skapat ihop. Tack till alla fina medarbetare som både trott på och skjutit ner mina galna idéer, och tack till alla som varit med på just denna fantastiska resa under min tid som VD.

The time has come to step down as CEO at Candy People AB.

This will be my, Jacob Youssef’s, last pressrelease as CEO of Candy People AB.
So, where should I start?

I started in the confectionery industry as a 15-year-old and have both grown up and been educated in a fantastic industry that I hold very close to my heart. My sense of business started early since one of my first toys was a cash register. This later developed into my first business where I managed to outcompete the school cafeteria by selling sweets from my locker. My father started to work in the confectionary business in 1982 and I have spent many years by his side in the business. Therefore, it was very natural when during high school I started spending both evenings and weekends at Candy People to understand how everything worked, before I took on the role of vice president at the age of 20.

So, I was 25 years old and CEO and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Now in retrospect, I think that was probably my strength, that I didn’t know what awaited or was expected of me. The first seven years were not easy or beautiful, both me, close friends and family really struggled. From having gone from a turnover of approx. 7 million swedish krona, the company developed into something huge. With my naivety and fearlessness for both the industry and the future, Candy People made a fantastic journey. Over the years sales increased to 300 million swedish krona, expanded to several continents, awards such as the Exportgasellen and Entrepreneur of the Year stands in my office and we’ve worked with fantastic partners such as IKEA and ICA. These are some of the successes that make me dizzy just thinking about it. What an incredible journey! A small company from then the roughest area in Malmö to offices on most continents – but we still remained as an intimate family business.

After this amazing journey, I now begin to feel that I have done my part. I have fulfilled all the dreams I had for the company and now with incredible pride I am starting to feel, done? It’s time for me to do something else, to test my wings elsewhere. My mindset, drive and visions have developed the company for over 20 years and therefore I feel, now more than ever, that it is time to hand over the CEO position to the next person in the family – my sister Anna Bebinno Youssef.

Anna is not only my sister; she is also an incredibly driven and hardworking woman. She has the passion and desire to develop Candy People forward, the kind of drive that I once had when I started in the business. I also think it’s time to let a woman become CEO of Candy People, and it will be interesting to follow her vision for the company forward. Anna has been running her own companies for several years now, and I have full confidence in putting Candy People in her hands as well. She is deﬁnitely more structured than I am, and my wild and crazy behavior will be toned down a bit to make room for more thoughtfulness and calm decisions.

Both myself and my father, Joanis Youssef, will remain as advisors in the company for my sister. I also remain on the board and will certainly be seen from time to time at the head office in Malmö, but not in a prominent role. So, with a warm hand, I will let Anna develop Candy People on it’s continued fairytale journey that I know it will be.

What am I supposed to do now then?
I’ll leave that unsaid for now.
When the time is right, I will let you know.

Thanks to all the fine employees who both believed in, and stopped my crazy ideas, and thanks to everyone who was part of this particular amazing journey during my time as CEO.
